Fissure Sealants

Some of our teeth have smooth, flat surfaces whilst others like the back teeth have grooves and pits. These grooves can be very difficult to clean and food, plaque and bacteria may become deeply embedded in the grooves, causing the tooth to decay and a cavity to form.

Fissures sealants are a tooth coloured, hard protective coating which blocks the pits and grooves to prevent decay, and allow for easier more effective cleaning with the toothbrush.

Often, dental sealants are used to prevent tooth decay in children and are typically applied after permanent teeth have erupted. When placed on healthy teeth, adults can benefit from sealants as well.
